Like the title says, it's something I want to imprint on people's heads sometimes lol. I need to vent. I'm not a server, but I do work at a restaurant and serve our guests. I had a guy come in tonight so I did my usual greeting. He needed one minute so I went about doing something else while he was looking at his phone. He

announced "I'm ready" and practically shoved his phone in my face and said "I want this." To confirm his order I glanced at the menu and asked, "the carne asada plate?" as I point to the picture. costumer: Points to his phone: "This, I want this!" Me: "Yes, that looks like the CA plate, I just wanted to make sure.

Would you like flour or corn tortilla w/that?" RC: "I want it exactly like this!" Me: "You have the option of choosing either flour or corn tortillas. Which ones would you like?" RC: huffs and puffs as he rolls his eyes "Corn tortillas." He points outside to the front door. "How long has the homeless man been out there?" Me: Glancing

towards the front door, searching for a homeless man. "I'm not sure how long." RC: rolls eyes and gives exasperated sigh "You work here, how could you not know?" Me: "Sir, I don't monitor how long they are out there." RC: excessive eye rolls Me: "Sir, I don't understand why there is a need for an attitude" RC: “I was in the National

Guard for 20 years, I'm like this with everyone. Life's too short to be nice. Ugh, hold on" ... walks off but I hear "HEY!..." Me: turn around in shock as I continue to pass out an order He comes back 1 minute later... RC: "He said he already ate... I'm just trying to be a good citizen." continues

to roll eyes and give a stoic look Me: "Okay, I understand." I give him his total and he hands me his card. "It wouldn't hurt to say please and thank you though." I insert his card and give him a receipt. Him: "Okay, you win" I think I hear them mumble something about not coming back

As predicted, when I hand him his order, he walks off w/o so much as a thank you. To a certain extent, I guess I should have just kept my mouth shut, but honestly his excessive eye rolls and irritated attitude was too much for me to stay quiet. It's understandable for people to be in a

bad mood or just tired, but that doesn't mean you should take it out on others. I still find it baffling that so many people lack basic manners, especially towards people who handle their food.

Available_Weather_22 · 5 days ago Question from a customer?? I say "thank you" every time. And I mean EVERY time. Here's a straw....thank you. Here's your refill....thank you. Etc, etc, etc. Can it actually get to be TOO much? I

sometimes have that rattling around in the back of my head like "are you saying thank you too much to where it's actually annoying?" Or am I just over thinking it?

3liza2020 OP · 4 days ago Even when I go out to eat or grab take out, I make sure I say "thank you" every time and some people really appreciate it. I see what you're saying though about possibly being excessive, but I think it depends

on the worker and the vibe that's coming off. If they're not in the happiest mood, one "thank you" is fine, but if they're friendly, by all means, the more, the merrier.

they don't say thank you I'll say you're welcome. My favorite is parents that tell there kids to say please and thank you but they don't.

onereader149 . 4 days ago Being polite should be a given. It comes so automatic to me that I find myself saying “please” and "thank you" when I speak to Alexa on my Amazon Echo. Truth be told, she acknowledges my polite manner claiming that "it gives (her) a charge."

MoonstruckMind · 4 days ago I feel like the military literally teaches you manners. If you're caught by a higher up NOT being polite, isn't there a type of punishment?

3liza2020 OP. 4 days ago His "good citizen" comment threw me off because he yelled at them too. The homeless guy came in later to ask for some napkins and even he said the RC was hostile towards him.

Puzzled_End8664 5 days ago I don't think he was trying to give the guy a meal. I think he was assuming it was a homeless guy and trying to get rid of him. He was being a "good citizen" by removing a vagrant.

Guy. The business is slammed and you haven't had a break in six hours? Take your time with my order, stop, rest, take a breath. I'm sorry he was so Dude needs to learn "Life's too short to be n ty" instead.

3liza2020 OP. 4 days ago Not Roberto's, but a Mexican restaurant w/ a similar menu. I started out as a customer because I loved the food and service. (Long story but I eventually married one of the workers, so I work there 3 days a week just to help them out)

The owner is actually my brother-in-law, so I make sure to provide great service. I agree, even when it's busy, it's not hard to be polite and reciprocate some manners, so that's why it doesn't make sense to me. "Life's too short to be n_ty" will be my new motto
